The first ever attempt to drill for oil in Denmark took place 80 years ago on this day in 1935. The attempt, which occurred in Påby near Kolding in south Jutland, implemented the rotary method and was run using steam engines.

The attempt was in vain, however, and abandoned at a depth of 791 metres after the drill got stuck.
