Aarhus to get traffic-free residential section

Jutland city to be home to Denmark’s first car-free urban development project

A new urban development project underway in Aarhus will feature everything a residential urban neighbourhood should have: modern townhouses situated by green areas, streams and lakes.

However, the one thing it won’t have is parking spaces. Residents with cars will be parking elsewhere.

Country meets city
“Parking will be within walking distance, but residents will be forced to walk through the neighbourhood, which is a great way to get to know one’s neighbours,” property developer Jørn Tækker from Tækker Group told Jyllands-Posten.

“Unlike a traditional residential development, where one drives directly to a carpark, goes into the house and hides behind a hedge, we are looking to create a development that combines the best elements of urban living with the best of living in the suburbs.”
