Serious injuries sustained in weekend knife attacks in Copenhagen

Three men taken to hospital in separate stabbing incidents

Copenhagen’s nightlife scene saw two separate knife attacks over the weekend.

A man in his late 30s was seriously injured after he was stabbed while attending a techno party in Nordhavn early on Sunday morning. The attack came as the victim attempted to ‘rescue’ his girlfriend.

“A group was punching and kicking her and knocked her to the ground,” Copenhagen Police spokesman Gunnar Nørager told Jyllands-Posten. “When her boyfriend tried to help, he was attacked and stabbed.”

The man was stabbed multiple times and was taken to Rigshospitalet’s trauma centre in a life-threatening condition. Police later confirmed he was now out of danger.

The police are not sure how many people participated in the attack and have no suspects. The investigation has been hampered by the recollections of the potential witnesses, who had been partying all night before the 4 am attack.

Thrown bottle leads to stabbing
Meanwhile, two men were stabbed in an attack in Ballerup on Saturday after they stopped to confront someone who had thrown a beer bottle at their car.

“It was a group of four people: three foreigners and a Dane,” said Kim Madsen from Copenhagen West Regional Police.

“As the two men got out of the car, the Dane stabbed one man five or six times. One wound caused the victim’s lung to collapse.”

The multiple-stabbing victim is a 26-year-old man. His 35-year-old companion suffered a single 6 cm knife wound in his back.

Both men were transported to Rigshospitalet with what police called non-life threatening injuries.

The attacker and his friends fled the scene. Police have not found the weapon used in the attack and are asking for help to identify anyone involved.
