If you’ve ever walked through the city and wondered what it would have looked like in another era, tomorrow is your chance to get a glimpse.
From 2-6 pm, the area around the junction of Istedgade and Gasværksvej in Vesterbro will be closed to traffic for a Second World War street party celebrating the (re)opening of a cultural landmark.
The Stjerne Radio shop at Istedgade 31 wasn’t just an electronics retailer, it was the birthplace of the resistance group Holger Danske I. The address was vacant for many years, but now the shopfront has been reinstated and the location will house exhibitions about the resistance.
There will be speeches, historical accounts, swing music played from original 78 rpm gramophone records and food and drink in the form of Rich’s coffee replacement and food rations from Vesterbro Folkekøkken.
An exhibition of vehicles from the Occupation will complete the 1940s experience.
