Today’s Date: Christian IV’s coronation

On this day in 1596, King Christian IV was crowned king of Denmark at the Vor Frue Kirke in Copenhagen.

The coronation introduced a new crown made by the noted Odense goldsmith Didrik Fuirens.

The royal party was the largest ever held at the time. In total, 35,000 drinking glasses were used.
