DTU dominant in Dutch winds

A team of eight students and two supervisors from DTU have won the unofficial world championship for wind-powered vehicles, Racing Aeolus Den Helder 2015.

Competing on a 5.3 km track on a dyke in the Netherlands, the DTU team managed to beat the world record holders from Canada with their mechanically-propelled vehicle, the WinDTUrbineracer.

Unideal conditions
In spite of weak winds, it achieved a speed equal to 62.51 percent of wind speed and won the race. The Danish students also fielded one electrically propelled vehicle, but it was unable to complete the race.

Racing Aeolus Den Helder is one of the largest sustainability races in the world, where international teams of students compete with hyper-modern cars powered by energy generated from the wind
