From Monday September 21 to Sunday September 27, police across the country will be targeting cyclists and moped drivers in a traffic safety campaign.
The focus on so-called soft road users is prompted by the high rate of fatalities when they are involved in road accidents. In 2013, some 33 cyclists and 11 moped drivers were killed on Denmark’s roads, and in many cases risky behaviour by the victims was a contributing factor to the accident.
Police will be deploying measuring devices to test that the speed restriction of mopeds has not been tampered with and that they are not capable of exceeding their approved speed.
In addition, police will be paying special attention to the conduct of cyclists, watching out for those jumping red lights and cycling on pavements and across pedestrian crossings.
