Acclaimed Danish patisserie La Glace is celebrating its 145th anniversary today.
Founded on 8 October 1870, La Glace is Denmark’s oldest and considered by many as one of the best.
It has been passed on through six generations to its current owner Marianne Stagetorn Kolos, who has run the cake shop since 1989.
To mark the special occasion, La Glace is officially opening its doors to its newly renovated and expanded shop in Skoubogade in the centre of Copenhagen.
Guided tours during Culture Night
The patisserie sells a wide range of pastries and layer cakes, including its signature cake ‘Sportskagen’ that consists of crushed nougat, whipped cream, caramelised choux pastry and a macaroon base.
The cake was first made on the occasion of the theatre play ‘Sportsmænd’ that premiered on 18 November 1891 at Folketeatret i Nørregade.
In conjunction with tomorrow’s Culture Night, the patisserie will offer guided tours of the shop every half an hour from 18:00 to 23:00.
A cup of coffee or hot chocolate is included in the ticket that costs 80 kroner.
