Denmark to host 2017 European Swimming Championships

Copenhagen’s upcoming Royal Arena has the honour

The European Swimming Federation (LEN) has announced today at its congress in Vienna that Copenhagen will host the 2017 Short Course European Swimming Championships.

In 2013, the competition was held at the Boxen Arena in Herning, and in 2017 the top short distance swimmers will be thrashing it out at the Royal Arena currently being built in the Danish capital.

“We are still buzzing following the swimming we delivered in Herning in 2013, and the thought of once again getting the opportunity to offer our swimmers and all of Denmark an international championship at home is a huge joy,” said Pia Holmen, the head of the Danish swimming association Dansk Svømmeunion.

“We feel well prepared to take on this task thanks to our experience in 2013. We realise a lot of work is involved in the event, but we also know the many positive aspects that come with hosting.”
