Clas Svahn is Sweden’s foremost UFO expert and one of the founding members of UFO-Sweden, a 40-year-old organisation that tasks themselves with watching Sweden’s night skies.
If you see something out of the ordinary zipping across the sky at night, this under-funded rag-tag band of believers are the number to call.
Crafts near lakes, but not boats
Filmmakers Michael Cavanagh and Kerstin Übelacker followed Clas for a few years, initially becoming interested after hearing about Clas’s investigation into one particular long-running mystery: a phenomena known as Ghost Rockets.
Several of these sightings have been made, all with consistent stories that tell of similar shaped crafts near lakes, with some sightings dating back almost 70 years. This new investigation provides the film with a powerful engine.
Sitcom potential?
Although ostensibly about little green men and flying saucers, the film’s real focus is the people. All of them are as enthusiastic about the social element of belonging to this group as they are about the secrets of the cosmos.
It’s a very funny (there’s fertile ground for a sitcom here) and frequently touching portrait of likable and identifiable characters, all of various ages and personalities, yet united by the human desire to know. You’ll want to believe.
