Grain harvest the best for six years

Over 10 million tonnes harvested

This year’s combined harvest of different types of grain has exceeded 10 million tonnes, which is 2.6 percent higher than last year and the best result since 2009.

The total amount of land committed to grain increased by 1 percent. The grain yield per hectare also rose by 1 percent.

Winter wheat continues to represent the largest share of the harvest by nearly 50 percent, but spring barley registered the largest growth.

The canola harvest set a new record with a total of 821,000 tonnes – an increase of 112,000 tonnes due largely to a 16 percent increase in the amount of land given over to canola.
