Today’s Date: The birth of an artist

Petersen gave us some of the landscapes of our times

On this day in 1812, the Danish artist Vilhelm Petersen was born in Copenhagen. He dedicated himself to landscape painting in 1830 and later received a grant to travel abroad, visiting the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.

His notable works include ‘Study of a Stone Heap’ (on display at Statens Museum for Kunst) and ‘Rhine Landscape’ (Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York).
