Lego reveals new figure in a wheelchair

A disabled boy in a wheelchair accompanied by an assistance dog features in the 2016 ‘Fun at the Park’ set

Lego unveiled a number of new play-sets for 2016 last week at the Nuremberg toy fair in Germany, and one of them features a disabled boy in a wheelchair.

The boy in the wheelchair, who has an assistance dog, is featured in Lego’s ‘Fun at the Park’ set – and the news has been warmly received by the #ToyLikeMe campaign, which has been urging the Danish toy company to include disabled figures in its sets.

Rebecca Atkinson, the co-founder of the campaign, wrote: “We’ve got genuine tears of joy right now. Lego have just rocked our brick-built world!”

A petition for more toys that positively represent disability had attracted over 20,000 signatures on change.org.
