Puffin discovery made in vicinity of washed-up whale

The exhausted seabird was taken to a wildlife rescue centre in north Jutland

Two puffins were found nearby the dead whale that last week washed up on a beach at the northern Jutland holiday town of Blokhus.

One of the small seabirds was dead, but the other one was transported to a wildlife rescue centre in nearby Farstrup, where it was put under a heat lamp and got some food.

If it recovers, it will be released back into the wild, said Kristian Mosgaard, the head of the Farstrup rescue centre.

Puffins are common in Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Norway, but are rarely observed in Denmark.

Only about 50 of them are annually spotted on the coast of Jutland.
