Scores of cabs cause traffic nightmare during Uber demonstration

Taxi advocacy organisation blasts “obsolete” laws

There was a traffic jam of terrific dimensions in Copenhagen today as hundreds of taxis blocked off the area in front of the Parliament building Christiansborg in protest at the US carpooling company Uber.

Sources told the Copenhagen Post than upwards of 300 cabs were parked on the roads blocking any traffic from passing by Christiansborg.

“You may very well disagree with the taxi laws. It is hopelessly obsolete and should be changed as soon as possible,” Dansk Taxi, which represents all aspects of the legal taxi industry in Denmark and which supported the demonstration today, informed Ekstra Bladet tabloid.

“But until our politicians decide to do something about it, we have a law that needs to be adhered to. Those responsible have failed when Uber continues to be able to systematically breach the law month after month.”
