Concert review: Grinning with Glynne – where you’d rather be

British singer Jess Glynne wows Denmark

British pop-soul singer Jess Glynne made her first performance on Danish soil at Amager Bio on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old, best known for featuring in Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather be’, is one of Britain’s most promising female pop exports.

Glynne mostly played songs from her 2015 debut album I cry when I laugh,  but also paid tribute to her idol Amy Winehouse with a performance of ‘Tears dry on her own’.

Music for all ears
The artist is known for her red curly hair, which was braided back. She wore a black jumpsuit and a golden necklace, matching the disco set-up of the stage.

Glynne played a diverse repertoire to please all ages, which was just as well as the audience was mixed: teenagers accompanied by their parents and business guys in suits looking for some light after-work entertainment.

Some of Glynne’s songs are soul-inspired, others up-beat pop songs that are easy to dance to.

Getting personal
The singer humbly said a few words about every song she played.

We found out that ‘Why me’ and ‘Don’t be so hard on yourself’ help her to stay strong when she is feeling low, that she gets a bit emotional when she plays ‘My love’, which is dedicated to her parents, and that ‘Take me home’ deals with a bad episode in in her life, but luckily she had people close to her who stood by her.

Glynne’s positivity and energy are partly a result of the great chemistry she shares with her band, with whom the smiling, interaction and good vibes rarely stop.

Making everyone’s day
The singer even took the time to appreciate her drummer’s birthday and had her background singers and the audience join in with a birthday song.

Glynne mentioned that she had a bad day prior to the show and thanked the audience for a great gig and “making her day”.

With her personal songs and powerful performance, she made it a special day for the audience as well.
