Chinese state councillor in talks about stronger ties with Denmark

Weekend meetings point to greater partnership efforts

Yang Jiechi, the Chinese state councillor, paid a visit to Denmark over the weekend, meeting with the foreign minister, Kristian Jensen, and also PM Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

The Chinese news service Xinhua reported that Jensen said the frequent meetings and exchange of visits between the leaders of the two countries since last year are “testimony to the robustness” of the relationship between the two countries.

Jensen said that Denmark hopes to maintain the momentum in co-operation with China in the areas of education, science and technology, tourism, energy, food and drug safety, financial regulation and green growth.

Jensen also said that Denmark is ready to play an active part in advancing China-EU relations.

Yang also expressed hope that Denmark would play a more active role in promoting China-EU ties and that China views Denmark as a crucial strategic co-operation partner in northern Europe and the European Union.
