Heavy rain and thunderstorms on the way for much of Denmark

Downpours already closing roads in Jutland

Danish national weather service DMI is warning that heavy rain and thunderstorms are on the way for many parts of the country.

Horsens and the surrounding area in Jutland has already experienced 15-20 mm of rain in one hour. The downpour has closed several roads.

Batten down the hatches
DMI warns that heavy rain, thunder and lightening and possibly even hail could hit much of the country as the afternoon and evening continues.

DMI defines ‘heavy rain’ as more than  24 mm of rain in six hours. There are risks of some localised downpours of 15 mm of rain in 30 minutes.

The chances of serious rain will diminish overnight, but DMI predicts that many areas will experience heavy downpours before the risk fades.
