Government keen on electric boats

Copenhagen Municipality and tour boat sector ready to go green

The government is looking into possibly changing the legislation in order to promote the use of boats and ships that run on electricity.

Energy interest organisation, Dansk Energi (DE), praised the proposal, which would mean a lowering of taxes on the use of electricity-driven marine vessels.

It would be good for the local air quality if Copenhagen got more electric boats instead of diesel boats,” said Stine Leth Rasmussen, a spokesperson for DE.

“But also from a climate perspective. Our electricity has never been greener than now and we need to begin to use more electric energy in general, particularly in transport. This would be a small step in that direction.”
