Five reports of rape at Roskilde Festival

Highest number or reports in recent memory

As this year’s Roskilde Festival comes to a close, Mid and West Zealand Police said that they have received five reports of rape occurring on the festival grounds during the event.

That is four more than last year’s single report and the highest number reported in many years.

Change in reporting
Police have previously said that rape numbers in general may be rising due to a change in investigative and reporting methods. Before this spring, reported rapes were listed as ‘investigations’ until a suspect had been apprehended. Once the alleged offender was arrested and questioned, the case was reclassified as a rape. There have been no arrests thus far in the five rape cases reported at Roskilde.

Om Saturday afternoon, police spokesperson Carsten Andersen said that the festival had been “generally calm” this year.
