Rio 2016 rundown: Today’s Olympic action (Days 7-9)

Can the Danes regroup following their swimming disaster?

Yesterday was a day of highs and lows for the Danish team in Rio.

There was elation in the rowing when the men’s coxless lightweight fours won silver and Denmark’s second medal overall, but the delight was drowned by bitter disappointment with the failure of Jeanette Ottesen and Rikke Møller Pedersen in the swimming pool.

Elsewhere, Fiji won its first ever Olympic gold medal by romping past Great Britain in the Rugby sevens final and Michael Phelps continued to cement his golden legacy by winning his fourth gold medal of the games and a mesmerising 26th Olympic medal overall.

With a host of gold medals up for grabs today and over the weekend, the intriguing medal events include:
