DTU remains the most innovative Nordic university

The University of Copenhagen came in second

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is still considered the most innovative Nordic university by the news agency Reuters.

DTU ranked number 53 in the world on the ‘Reuters Top 100 World’s Most Innovative Universities’ rankings, while the University of Copenhagen (KU) was the only other Nordic university on the list coming in at 75.

“For many years we have made a concerted effort in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, and the fact that we are able to maintain our ranking as one of the world’s top 100 innovative universities – and the most innovative university in the Nordic countries – tells me that we are focusing on the right areas,” said Marianne Thellersen, the senior vice president of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at DTU.

“Among other things, it is our extensive collaboration with the corporate sector and our work with patents that has secured our ranking on the list. However, there is still room for improvement – we can become better at bringing our patents into play so that new technologies from DTU can help established Danish companies as well as new start-ups to gain international recognition.”

First time for KU
Despite the good news, DTU must be slightly concerned that it dropped ten spots compared to last year’s list.

KU, meanwhile, will be pleased that it made the list in 2016 after being omitted last year.

The top five on the list were all US universities, led by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, University of Texas System and University of Washington System.
