FC Copenhagen retain Superliga title

With four games to go, the Lions are roaring for an unbeaten season

Thanks to a 1-1 draw away at FC Nordsjælland last night, FC Copenhagen have reclaimed the Danish Superliga title for the second year running.

Needing just a point to be crowned champions, a second-half goal by Andreas Cornelius sealed the deal after Marcus Ingvartsen had given FCN the lead in the first half.

“This must rank up there as perhaps the strongest team in the club’s history,” said FCK’s coach, Ståle Solbakken.

“We’ve had a fantastic European campaign, we’re in the cup final and we haven’t lost in the Superliga yet. But we’ve never come as close to losing as today. It was the first game in the season that we lost statistically.”

The invincibles
The league title is FCK’s 12th since the club was founded in 1992 and sixth since 2009.

FCK have played over 50 games so far this season and have only lost two games: away at Leicester City and Ajax in Europe. At home in the Superliga, they are undefeated.

FC Copenhagen still have four league games remaining: home against rivals Brøndby, away at FC Midtjylland and Lyngby, and then closing out the season at home to Sønderjyske.
