Have you noticed the flags on the buses today?

That’s right, there are two types: the trust Dannebrog has been joined by the 12 stars of the EU flag, a design chosen in 1955 that thankfully hasn’t been updated every time a new member has been added (or taken away – we’re talking about you, Brexit!).

May 9 marks Europe Day, which commemorates the historic Schuman Declaration in 1950.

Robert Schuman, the French foreign minister at the time, proposed the merger of the French and West German coal and steel industries, leading to the European Coal and Steel Community – a forerunner of the EU.

The first person in Denmark has been registered as bitten by a hunting tick – a carrier of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, which has a mortality rate of up to 50 percent. Warmer temperatures caused by climate change mean that the ticks, which previously died during the flight journeys of the migratory birds that carry them, increasingly survive and reach maturity in Denmark.

A new analysis from Dansk Erhverv has found that foreign labour contributed DKK 76 billion to GDP in the first three months of 2024, equivalent to 2.7 percent of Denmark’s total GDP.

Internationals in Denmark rarely join a trade union

Internationals are overrepresented in the lowest-paid fields of agriculture, transport, cleaning, hotels and restaurants, and construction – industries that classically lack collective agreements. A new analysis from the Workers’ Union’s Business Council suggests that internationals rarely join trade unions – but if they did, it would generate better industry standards.
Novo Nordisk overtakes LEGO as the most desirable future workplace amongst university students

The numbers are especially striking amongst the 3,477 business and economics students polled, of whom 31 percent elected Novo Nordisk as their favorite, compared with 20 percent last year.
