Danish restaurant blooms even brighter

Multi-award winning restaurant Geranium wins again, this time for its wines.

Already the holder of three Michelin stars – the only Danish restaurant to have achieved such a feat – and listed in the top 50 restaurants globally, Geranium swept up a hat-trick this week at the Star Wine List awards.

Coming up roses
The restaurant, which is based at the Parken stadium, was winner of the top Danish wine list overall, best wine list by the glass, and best Austrian wine list. The haul represented an impressive half of the total awards on offer.

With a wine list extending over a hundred pages, wine director and co-owner Søren Ledet described his satisfaction at being recognised for the effort they put in.

“The Geranium wine program is all about making the guest feel comfortable,” he said.

“I want my guests to be able to drink the wine that will make their night magical, whatever that might be … our wine list is not built to impress, but first and foremost to please.”

Justifying the decision, jury member and master sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier commended the restaurant for its “rare breadth and depth”.

A crowded garden
The awards enter an already burgeoning trophy-cabinet. Alongside the three Michelin stars, head-chef and co-owner Rasmus Kofoed is the only chef in the world to have won gold, silver and bronze at the prestigious Bocuse d’Or cooking competition.

Meanwhile, on the wine and hospitality front, Ledet’s work has previously been recognised by the Art of Hospitality Award and the Wine Spectator’s most prestigious honour: the Grand Award.
