Police intensify traffic controls to ensure safe school roads

Parental behaviour is a significant concern when it comes to road safety around schools, according to the Danish National Police.

With countless new students attending school for the first time, special attention is being paid to traffic safety on school roads.

Over the past fortnight, police have conducted targeted traffic control operations to promote a safer environment for the students, writes the Danish National Police in a press release.
Speed limits have been enforced to prevent reckless driving, and police are monitoring whether children are properly secured with seat belts.

School patrols are being scrutinized to ensure they are managing the safe crossing of children at designated areas, as is the behaviour of parents during drop-off and pick-up times.

Reckless parents
Parental behaviour is a significant concern when it comes to road safety around schools, according to the Danish National Police.

Some drivers become so preoccupied with getting their own children to school that they show little regard for other road users, whether they are pedestrians or cyclists.

“Every year we stop far too many drivers who drive too fast, who are not using seat belts on themselves or their children, who are inattentive, or who fail to heed the traffic signs at schools. It’s about ensuring safe school routes, and that’s why we’re also carrying out checks this year,” says Christian Berthelsen, police assistant in the National Police’s Group Communications in a press release.
