While most sports currently sidelined as the coronavirus takes centre stage, the All England Open Championship in badminton was a rarity over the past few days.
And it ended in Danish delight today as Viktor Axelsen became the first Dane to take the men’s singles title since Peter Gade won it in 1999.
A runner-up last year, Axelsen won comfortably over Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan by a scoreline of 21-13, 21-14.
First since Tine
It was the biggest win of the 26-year-old Dane’s career and it further cemented his position as Denmark’s top badminton star in recent years.
The last Dane to win an All England singles title was Tine Rasmussen in 2013.
