While David Hockney’s earlier works – like ‘A Bigger Splash’ or ‘John St Clair Swimming’ – are quite likeable despite their dreadfully shrill colours, lack of depth and boring subject matter, his later work has become rather wearisome.
Nevertheless, considered an important contributor to the Pop Art movemnet of the 1960s, Bradford’s favourite son, 77, is one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century (he was even mentioned in The Sopranos once!) and his work represents a significant testimony in the landscape of modern art.
