Aarhus rated among world’s best Christmas destinations

Praised for its market, lunches and lighting display, the City of Smiles was ranked eighth by Big 7 Travel

Now might not be the best time to be galivanting about the world in the search for the best Christmas experience. 

But if it were, Aarhus could be a good bet – the city in Jutland has been rated as the eighth best travel Christmas destination by travel app Big 7 Travel.

Among other things, Big / Travel praised the City of Smiles for its markets, lunches and its display of Christmas lights.

When December rolls around, something special happens in Aarhus. This cosy Danish city comes to life with its Christmas markets, traditional Danish Christmas lunches, horse-drawn carriages and more twinkling lights than you can imagine,” Big 7 Travel wrote.

“Be sure to experience Christmas in Den Gamle By which provides a unique insight into 400 years of Christmas history.”

However, much of the allure of Aarhus (and the rest of Denmark) is perhaps rather subdued at the moment due to COVID-19 restrictions.

No stranger to Moscow
Dresden ranked top of the list, followed by Woodstock (Vermont), Franklin (Tennessee), New York City and Moscow.

London, Leavenworth (Washington), Aarhus, Williamsburg (Virginia) and Colmar (France) rounded out the top 10.

Other Nordic representation on the list included Rovaniemi (Finland) coming in at 20th spot and Reykjavik, which ranked 22nd.
