Kids are back in school, parking in Copenhagen is crowded again and people are coming back to the office.
So, if you don’t feel the Danish summer gave you enough opportunity to take a splash in the waves, you might already feel like retreating on a tropical Island.
Don’t worry a solution may be closer than you think.
Just outside Berlin you find an enormous dome called Tropical Island Resort. The Copenhagen Post was invited to stop by for a review.
Living in Denmark with more than three times as much coast as Germany, and where the beach almost always is no more than an hour by car away, it can seem a bit odd to go indoors for the beach.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect.
However I decided to bring my three kids between the ages of five to thirteen along for the ride.
Our first road trip
Normally driving for an hour by car with tired or hungry children can seem like a nightmare of conflicts on the backseat, and finding other things than sushi or ice cream, that all three kids are excited for, can be difficult, to say the least.
So with the eighth hour drive from Copenhagen to Tropical Island resort in mind I had my concerns, but that was, much to the parents’ surprise, not needed.
The combination of excitement for the destination and plenty of water bottles, crackers and other snacks for the ride, proved successful, and the drive went very smoothly.
Something for everyone
I have never been attracted to water parks, but I must say it was good fun for the entire family.
And water parks may not cover the experience. It was more a merger of various forms of theme parks, including botanical gardens, amusement parks, water sports and wellness, literally something for everyone and every age.
We went to stay for two nights in the Ohana lodges, with separate bedrooms for the kids and great facilities.
The tropical Island area was enormous, so we didn’t get to explore everything, but both the parents and kids were excited and everyone wanted to go back.
Tropical Islands resort and our first road trip will remain as nice summer memories and worth doing again for the entire family.
Next time maybe also combined with a visit to Berlin on the way home.
If I can convince the kids, they probably just want to stay in the Tropical Islands resort.
