Traffic trouble in Copenhagen: Knippelsbro bridge out of commission

Bridge between Amager and the city centre is stuck in open position

Traffic attempting to cross Knippelsbro, between Christianshavn and central Copenhagen, was stopped in both directions due to a malfunction in the bridge’s bascule mechanism that lets it open and close for harbour traffic.

Copenhagen Police wrote on Twitter that the bridge was closed to all traffic because of the fault and that there was a 15 cm gap between the opening and closing arms.

City traffic was forced to take Langebro to get to Amager. Bikes had the additional option of the cycle bridge at Fisketorvet.

The bridge reopened shortly afterwards.
