Two hospitals in North Jutland – in Dronninglund and Nykøbing Mors – will be closed and their functions will be absorbed into other institutions following an agreement by the region regarding the restructuring of the hospital system.
Ulla Astman, the chairman of North Jutland, explained that the move is the result of financial pressure and the need to effectivise the healthcare services.
“The region is faced with a number of challenges in the healthcare area,” she said.
“This includes a tight budget, growing demand for health services, as well as increased requirements for effectivity and productivity.”
50 million-kroner savings
The region projects 10 million kroner of savings in 2015 and a further 40 million kroner by 2020.
DR reports that Thy-Mors hospital was at the centre of a scandal earlier this year, when it was revealed that unqualified doctors were performing procedures on patients, leading to cases of injury.
