Sports news in briefs: Laudrup the king of Scandinavia

Elsewhere, Denmark wins final test and the NBA is coming to Odense

Michael Laudrup has been named Scandinavia’s best ever player ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to a new comprehensive ranking by a number of Nordic newspapers and experts. Other Danes on the list included Peter Schmeichel (3), Alan Simonsen (4) Brian Laudrup (10), Søren Lerby (13) and Preben Elkjær (17).

Danes win final test
Denmark went behind for the eighth game in a row before coming back to beat Montenegro 2-1 in Viborg in their last friendly test before they take on Serbia on Saturday June 13. Christian Eriksen and a late penalty by Viktor Fischer – his first goal for Denmark – secured the win.

No Indonesian double
Denmark’s top badminton player Jan Ø Jørgensen couldn’t repeat last year’s triumph at the Indonesia Open as he surprisingly lost the final to the Japanese starlet Kento Momota 21-16, 19-21, 7-21. Jørgensen, ranked second in the world, also lost the All England Open final earlier this year.

NBA to Odense
The US basketball league NBA is coming to Scandinavia for the first time ever in August when it hosts a ’NBA 3X’ tournament in Odense. The tournament will feature competitions, shows, dunk competitions, music and possibly an NBA star or two. All can be seen at Vollsmose Torv and at Havnepladsen in Odense.

Kjeldsen on a roll
A week after winning his first European Tour title for six years, Danish golfer Søren Kjeldsen impressed again at the Nordic Masters in Malmö, finishing second. The Dane, 40, finished four strokes behind the Swedish winner Alex Noren and two strokes ahead of the third place finishers.
