51-year-old Amager man reported to be known to Danish police

A 51-year-old man from Amager has been charged with murdering his 40-year-old girlfriend in Spain on Sunday night. It is alleged he strangled her to death in a hotel room in the resort town of Torre del Mar.

The suspect appeared in court in Velez Malaga on the Costa del Sol yesterday. The hearing was held behind closed doors.

Following the preliminary hearing the man was taken to a police station in the local area, from which he will be later transferred to a prison.

Charges denied
The man has denied the charges. Spanish media has said that the suspect  claimed his girlfriend tried to hang herself with the electrical cord of a hairdryer.

The deceased woman’s autopsy has yet to be completed. But Spanish police are firm in their conviction that the woman was strangled.
