This week’s TV: No offence… but it will be taken!

Pick of the Week

No Offence
DR1, Mon 22:25
Paul Abbott, the creator of Shameless, presents his take on Jane Tennison (Prime Suspect), and this is one badass female cop you don’t want to mess with.
DI Vivienne Deering (Joanna Scanlan) is an outrageous character who sprays vaginal deodorant in public and calls her male colleagues ‘prostates’. Belly laughs come aplenty, but make no mistake; this is a drama with some serious bite.
Set in Manchester, Deering graduates from investigating Neo-Nazis, drugs and violence when a twisted serial killer appears on the scene to target the local Down Syndrome population.

No Offence is a ruthless and clever series, which is not afraid of losing its viewers with authentic grittiness. A divider of the critics, it is unlike any other, so don’t miss it, even if it is hard to not take offence at times. (EN)

Also New

Screened on consecutive nights on DR2, Mad as Hell and The Thread are companion pieces that reflect the ever-changing media landscape.
Mad as Hell, which takes its name from the classic news film Network, follows Cenk Uygur, the host of The Young Turks, who brings his uncensored brand of journalism to mainstream news. It’s an unrelenting, often hilarious assault on the senses.

And The Thread (Wed 23:00, repeated Thu 00:30) explores the impact amateur internet writers are having, using the case of the Boston Marathon bombing to show how badly it can go wrong.

Continuing a strong week for docs, British series The Supervet (DR1, Sat 19:10) has an insanely high IMDB score (voted for by animals presumably); while feature drama The Boy in the Dress (SVT1, Sun 01:45) and British 1950s crime series WPC 56 (DR1, Tue 23:05) also rate highly.

Elsewhere, 2015 doc Meth and Madness in Mexico (DR3, Tue 20:50) will raise the hairs on the back of your neck; Monty Python live (mostly): One down, five to go (SVT4, Fri 20:00) will raise some laughs; 2013 doc Clint Eastwood will look at a man who has raised the bar for octogenarians the world over; and G-Spotting (DR2, Sat 21:05) will raise your blood pressure. With a reunited cast including Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, and a 73 score on Metacritic, this hilarious comedy will make you laugh all the way to work next morning. (EN)

Film of the Week

Both Perfect Mothers and Wrecked appear to have dismayed as many viewers as they have amazed with their uncomfortable subjects: two women screwing each other’s sons and a man crippled by a car crash on a deserted hill. Safer bets might be The Way Way Back, Vertigo (SVT2, Fri 22:00) and epidemic thriller Contagion (TV2, Sun 21:00). (BH)
