City braced for all-out art attack

Copenhagen Art Week starts this coming Friday

With more than 50 different art venues involved, a huge art celebration is going to take over Copenhagen for ten days from next Friday. 

The city will be awash with exhibitions, guided tours, talks, parties and artistic performances. 

Copenhagen Art Week organisers kunsten.nu has enlisted a wide range of establishments – museums, art institutions, galleries, art project spaces – to lend their space and take part in the program.

Dissecting an artwork
And it thanks to their involvement that art week has been able to pursue its theme this year, 'The Making', as it seeks to take the viewer into the very machinations that created the artwork before us.

Tours, displays and cross-disciplinary salons will permit us a unique insight into the processes that take place at the work table, in the laboratory and in the studio. 

On Wednesday September 3, for example, there is a chance to visit the National Gallery of Denmark’s research departments and discover how the museum works are restored and dated. 

It is hoped the interaction between art professionals and art lovers will further stimulate interest in the art on display – not just this week, but all over the city – and arouse intellectual curiosity. 

Two other major events
Also launching on the first day of Copenhagen Art Week, the CHART Art Fair will offer a selection of Nordic’s best art, live concerts and gourmet food.Participating galleries will stay open later than normal as the art world goes into party mode.

After ten days of art events, a vibrant mix of music will accompany the grand finale at the alternative art fair Alt_Cph, which this year promises a fusion of art, technology and science.
