The Danish billionaire and car enthusiast Henrik Frederiksen has decided to sell his considerable car collection for an estimated 300 million kroner.
Frederiksen, the former owner of the health and cosmetics chain Matas, will auction off 48 of his 50 unique cars in a collection that the British auctioneer Bonhams has dubbed ‘The Frederiksen Collection’.
The car collection features 13 Rolls-Royces, three Mercedes-Benzs, three Cadillacs and two Bentleys, in addition to classics from Lagonda, Duesenberg, Jaguar, Horch, Chrysler, Renault, Citroën, Isotta Fraschini, Ahrens-Fox, Lincoln, Stutz, Packard, Auburn, Pierce Arrow and Alvis.
“Mr Frederiksen has spent several decades building this outstanding collection, so it’s a great privilege for Bonhams to have the opportunity to offer these incredibly rare and meticulously maintained motor cars,” said Jakob Greisen, the head of Bonhams US Motoring Department.
“It’s certainly one of Europe’s most important motoring collections, with several of these outstanding vehicles having received internationally recognised awards at Pebble Beach and Villa d’Este.”

Echoes of Rockefeller
The impressive collection includes cars formerly owned by John D Rockefeller Jr, Hedy Lamarr, Shirley Burden, Alexander Kennedy Miller, Art Doering, Katharine Dexter McCormick and even the former Maharaja of Patiala.
The Frederiksen Collection auction will take place at Lyngsbækgaard Manor, which is located in Mols Bjerge national park near Aarhus in Jutland, on Saturday 26 September.
Frederiksen said he decided to sell the collection after the sudden death of his wife Vivi Henriksen in April this year. The cars were a mutual passion they enjoyed together.
“I’ve never sold a car before, so this is a first for me. I’ve used the ex-JD Rockefeller Bentley and the Cadillac the most, so I’ll be sad to see them go. I’ve been in the motoring world for a long time now, but it’s time for that door to close and for a new one to open,” said Frederiksen.
