Two weeks in and the new taxi management system at Copenhagen Airport is proving successful, reports takeoff.dk.

In the past, taxi drivers used to wait an average 42 minutes for customers, but now, thanks to the new system, the waiting times have more than halved to an average of 16 minutes.

“Shorter waiting times mean drivers and operators can make money elsewhere in the city instead of waiting in traffic at the airport,” said Trine Wollenberg, the head of the Danish Taxi Council.

Only when needed
Taxi companies co-operate with the airport, which gives them estimates of the airport’s passengers, and only send chauffeurs to the airport when they are needed there.

“There are still some parts of the system that need to be improved and old habits and routines have to be changed,” said Henrik Peter Jørgensen, the communications manager at Copenhagen Airport.

“But the first two weeks have shown that we are well on the way.”
