Fødevarestyrelsen, the Danish veterinary and food administration, advises consumers to be vigilant when buying three specific sweets products, reports Jyllands-Posten.
The authority believes the candy is old and has been repackaged with fake expiry date labels.
The sweets in question are:
Liquorice Toffees in 1,350 kg boxes labelled: ‘Best before: 15-06-2016’;
Dumle Dark of 1,210 kg boxes labelled: ‘Best before: 14-03-2016’;
Fazer Mint in 1,220 kg boxes labelled: ‘Best before: 16-04-2016’.
“We hope that by warning against these three products, people can avoid eating them, because they may be contaminated with E.coli bacteria that can make them sick,” Claus Sørensen, a food inspector at Fødevarestyrelsen, told Jyllands-Posten.
The food administration has seized rolls of false expiry date labels that were used on old candy discovered two weeks ago at a warehouse in Valby.
The products are not only old, warns Fødevarestyrelsen, but were also repackaged in extremely unhygienic facilities.
