Flood warnings in central Jutland: Risk of Storå stream breaking its banks

Authorities have made sand bags available to residents of affected areas

Heavy rain during most of Saturday and Sunday in central Jutland has led to elevated water levels and authorities in the region are warning that the Storå stream, which runs from Ikast to Nissum Fjord, could burst its banks, DR reports.

Take precautions
Residents in the affected areas, including the town of Holstebro, have been invited to collect free sandbags to protect their properties from flooding.

“If you live near the Storå in Holstebro you should take precautions now. Remove everything of value from the floor in the basement,” Flemming Kofoed of Holstebro Municipality advised.

Kofoed told DR that water levels were expected to rise until midnight on Sunday.

Mid and West Jutland Police also warned motorists of water on the roads that could lead to aquaplaning. They have received close to 50 reports of flooding on the roads in the areas around Holstebro, Struer, Lemvig, Salling and Skive.

According to DMI, between 2pm on Saturday and early Sunday morning up to 25 millimetres of rain fell in parts of central Jutland.
