Crooks looking to break into your Christmas

Police encouraging citizens to watch for suspicious people and vehicles

An increasing number of Jutlanders have been returning home to broken-down doors and ransacked drawers over the last month. There have been 273 burglaries in the region – 45 during the last weekend alone.

“We believe it is because we are getting close to Christmas,” Klaus Arboe Rasmussen, a chief superintendent at Mid and West Jutland Police, told DR Nyheder. “It is a well-known phenomenon that crime goes up at Christmas.”

Keep an eye out
Police warned residents to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour.

“We would really like people to watch out for changes in their neighbourhood or apartment complexes,” said Rasmussen. “Is there anyone they don’t know? Cars they don’t recognise? Let us know about anything out of the ordinary.”

Break-ins typically happen between Tuesday and Saturday between 3 and 8 pm. There seems to be no pattern to the rash of break-ins in Jutland, and police do not suspect that it is an organised gang.
