The controversial Danish poet Yahya Hassan has been kicked out of Nationalpartiet following his latest brush with the authorities.
Hassan, 20, was arrested on Tuesday in Aarhus following a long car chase with the police, who also charged him with driving under the influence of narcotics.
“The board held an extraordinary meeting concerning our candidate Yahya Hassan tonight and decided to exclude him from Nationalpartiet,” the party wrote on Twitter.
“Nationalpartiet wishes Yahya all the best in the future.”
Nationalpartiet head Kashif Ahmad said that Hassan’s dismissal was down to a recent string of problematic events involving the poet.

Poetry and obituaries
Last year, Hassan was arrested in an Aarhus pub after reportedly causing a disturbance. He was also attacked in Copenhagen earlier in the year.
Hassan, on the other hand, contended that he had left the party on his own terms.
“From now on I’ll just be writing poetry and obituaries,” Hassan said on Facebook.
