Famous Danish WWII resistance fighter passes away

Eigil Skov Jørgensen helped produce weapons for the resistance group Holger Danske

One of the most notable members of Denmark’s resistance movement during WWII, Eigil Skov Jørgensen, has passed away aged 93.

Under his cover name ‘Foss’, Jørgensen helped produce weapons for the resistance group Holger Danske in his illegal weapons workshop. There he produced copies of the British Sten-gun submachine guns and repaired damaged versions.

Jørgensen also took part in a number of resistance sabotage attacks during the Nazi occupation, including the attack on Lundtofte Airfield in November 1944.

During an interview later in life, he also revealed that he had taken part in the assassination of a person co-operating with the Nazis.

After the war, Jørgensen worked for the shipping company Lauritzen before embarking on a long career in the oil industry.

He was also the head of associations for veterans of the resistance movement for many years.
