Battle of the dance: Tiësto at Tivoli vs opening night at Distortion Ø

Copenhagen electronic music fans have been served a double whammy, and it might end up being an agonising choice.

While Distortion will once again be returning to Refshaleøen for two long nights of hedonism on Friday June 3, a certain artist by the name of Tiësto will be pulling them in just down the road at Tivoli.

Similar set-up to last year’s Distortion
After a long winter, Copenhageners know how to turn their city into a warm orchestrated chaos.

And once again for five days, from 1-5 June 2016, emerging dance music will take their streets, nightclubs and bars within the framework of Distortion.

The program includes 122 dancefloors, countless daytime street parties and night club events, and the ticket-only Distortion Ø (June 3-4), which this year is once again at Refshaleøen.

Among the headliners this year are: US singer Kelala, a big name to look out for in the future of R ‘n’ B, claim the organisers; ‘Empress Of’, an abstract solo project by Lorely Rodriguez; DJ David Rodigan, who will be bringing his selection of reggae and dancehall music; Tiga, a Canadian musician, DJ and record producer of electronic dance music; and Ata Kak, who will be bringing Ghanaian pop-dance to the party.

‘Early bird’ Distortion Passes have already sold out for this year.

The Distortion organisers weren’t the only ones busy announcing line-ups this week.

Fredagsrock Tivoli, for the 20th time, will be bringing household names to its Open Air Stage, although this year’s line-up doesn’t have as many international stars as last year.

While the class of 2015 included Snoop Dogg, Belle & Sebastian, Jessie J and Jamie Cullum, this season’s selection is a far more Danish affair, with the legendary Kim Larsen being ably assisted by Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Christopher, Teitur (Faroes), Oh Land, Morten Breum, and Top Gunn and Noah.

Dutch electronic star Tiësto is the biggest name (June 3) amongst the imports, with French duo Air and US sister trio Haim also bringing some international clout to Tivoli.
