Copenhagen plans to invest 2.5 million kroner into turning the city’s harbour into a cultural oasis with interesting events taking place all year round.
Kulturhavn365, a three-year project supported by the Nordea Foundation, aims to raise awareness about the harbour’s potential outside the summer season.
“As Copenhagen continues to grow it is important to take advantage of the city’s full potential,” stated Carl Christian Ebbesen, the deputy mayor for culture and leisure.
“That’s why I’m pleased we can uplift the harbour with a number of cultural events and show its potential is greater than most people think – even outside the summer season.”
Financial support to local initiatives
Kulturhavn365 has already allocated 180,000 kroner to 13 initiatives, including flea markets, literature readings on the quay, children’s theatre and art sailing trips.
Since June 2015, some 50 different events have been financially supported by the project, and locals as well as businesses and cultural institutions are encouraged to apply for funding for their harbour events.
The Nordea Foundation has donated 11.5 million kroner to the project, which will run until the end of 2017.
