Geekcore Festival

Get your geek on at Denmark’s first ever Geekcore convention, a 24-hour event running over four days that aims to bring together those interested in sci-fi, fantasy, comics/manga, anime, cosplay, roleplaying, gaming, eSport, horror, tv/film and much more! The programme includes nerd comedy show Nørderne Strikes Back, a Mortal Kombat gaming event, and much more. Sleep halls are available for those who would like to stay at the convention – bring your sleeping bag!

Madame Butterfly
Set in Nagasaki, Japan circa 1900, Madame Butterfly follows the love story between an innocent young girl and an older man, and the societal turmoil caused by their romance. Giacomo Puccini’s classic chamber opera is directed by Guido Paevatalu, best known as a singer at the Royal Opera and a veteran performer in Madame Butterfly. If you have no luck securing a ticket via any of the online forums, check the opera’s tour dates, which run until February 2014 with several performances across Zealand.

The Red Balloon
The classic French tale of a boy and his beloved red balloon has transformed from film featurette to a dance performance and travelled from the streets of Paris to Copenhagen. Choreographed by Tim Rushton and performed by the Christianshavn School of Ballet, The Red Balloon is aimed at children aged four to ten.

RESPONSIBILITY
Dansekapellet (the Dance Chapel) hosts an exciting new street dance performance RESPONSIBILITY, a co-production between Dansekapellet and Hamburg Hip Hop Academy, involving 12 young, professional dancers from Denmark and Germany. Through the medium of dance, RESPONSIBILITY explores themes of adult life responsibilities, obligations and freedom. From October 14-18, the dancers will be giving free dance classes to the local youth, with most of the training in English. This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the best dancers in urban and modern dance.

PH Comedy Club
This month, the English comedy club sees UK comedy stalwarts Sean McLoughlin, described as “a painful genius” (BroadwayBaby.com), and Wil Hodgson, “the most charismatic of storytellers” (Scotsman), visit the city for the first time. They’re joined by resident host Paul B Edwards, UK festival circuit regular.

The Danger From Above
This exhibition, housed in an air raid shelter behind the museum, recreates the atmosphere of an air raid shelter as it was in 1944-45, and examines the effect of air raids on daily life.
