Fewer Danes involved in traffic accidents

Over the last ten years, the number of traffic accidents on Denmark’s roads has more than halved

New statistics released by the Danish Road Directorate on Saturday reveal it is safer to drive a car in Denmark than it has been at any other time during the last 80 years.

During the course of the last ten years, increasingly fewer Danes have been affected by accidents while driving.

Some 178 people were killed in accidents last year, while 3,156 were injured.

“We have certainly come a long way in regard to road safety in Denmark,” noted Marianne Foldberg Steffensen, the head of the Danish Road Directorate.

“It is gratifying that we have, year after year, set new records for fewer road injuries.”

However, on the flip side, more people died as a result of motorcycle accidents last year than ever before – eight people were killed and 114 were injured.
