Greenwald: Denmark “submissive” to the US

Country played a much larger role in US surveillance than previously thought

Glenn Greenwald, the journalist confidant of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, said that Denmark plays a much larger role in US surveillance than has been previously revealed, and that Denmark's role is much larger than that of neighbouring countries.

“The relationship between the United States and Denmark in the intelligence field is very close,” Greenwald told TV2 News.

Greenwald said that as a member of the group called the '9-Eyes', Denmark has a relationship with the US that just below that of its top four surveillance allies: the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

“The Danish government is very co-operative, almost submissive when it comes to carrying out US wishes and requirements,” said Greenwald.

Greenwald said that revelations are forthcoming concerning Denmark's role in the international monitoring of phones, emails and other communications.

“Denmark has a very close relationship with the NSA and has adopted many of their methods,” said Greenwald.
