Violent crime is on the increase as police resources continue to be diverted to the county’s borders and dealing with the terror threat.
A frustrated force
“We now have a much longer response time to violent cases,” Tom Steffensen from the North Zealand police union told BT.
“They are made to wait in favour of guarding the borders and the Jewish institutions. It frustrates us and violates our sense of justice.”
Rapid rise in crime
Nationally, there was a 27 percent increase in violent crime during the first quarter of 2016 compared to the same period last year. There was also a 13 percent increase in burglaries and a 12 percent rise in robberies.
According to Svend Larsen, the head of the national police force Rigspolitiet, 10 percent of the country’s officers have spent time on either border or terror duty.
“It places the entire organisation under pressure,” he said.
