Most girls look a sorry sight in high heels. They’re painful and not even graceful. Fortunately there’s a pretty alternative: the ballet flat (aka ballerina shoe or Dolly shoe). Here are some suggestions that will enable you to walk gracefully like Audrey Hepburn, whether it’s to work or a night out and about.

Paul Green is German quality at its best. They last a life-time or in ballerina’s terms: at least more than one season! They offer more support than most ballet flats, yet they are still light to wear. And they maintain their shape in spite of many a ride to work where wellies would have been more appropriate. The prices start at 935 kroner, which may seem a lot, but since they last more than one season, they’re worth it.

An ideal choice for first time buyers, this is where you can discover if you’re cut out to wear the zebra striped ballet flats – as they will only cost you about 200 kroner. You’re lucky, of course, if they last more than a season, but by that time you will know whether you really do invest a good quality pair of zebra stripes for next year.

Pretty ballerina
Pretty ballerina offers exactly what the name promises: pretty ballet flats in every shape, colour and style. The price is not so pretty though – you will be hard pressed to find any pair for under 1,000 kroner. But again the quality is good and they don’t just look pretty: they are actually comfortable to wear. This year they have expanded their collection to include the newest fashion: loafers.

Notabene
Notabene’s own brand offers a small but definitely worthwhile collection of ballet flats. They fit well, but these shoes, as is freely admitted by the shop’s own staff, are only expected to last for one season. So possibly go for these when they are on sale – which they are at the moment. Regular prices start at 950 kroner – but during the sales, the prices fall to 599 kroner.
